Horseshoe’s 7 Popular Slots

If there was a popularity contest in the slot world, Sex and the City would definitely be voted Ms. Popular.

If there’s anything fans love to do most when visiting the Horseshoe Southern Indiana, it’s hitting the slots. Sure, there are other things to do like eat at the Paula Deen Buffet or watch Bret Michaels in concert, and that’s all fun. But we’re all about the games at the Horseshoe.  In a very unofficial Facebook poll, we asked our fans to name their favorite slots. Here they are, in no particular order and no real commentary on the make up of the machines.

Hey, I’m a craps kinda girl, what else was I supposed to talk about?

1. Sex and the City

I’ve actually played and enjoyed this machine a lot. And Lady luck, eat your heart out. Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte (and Mr. Big) are bringing sexy back to the slot machines. We love cute cartoons (hello Goldfish and Kitty Glitter) but all that pink and sparkle is hard to resist.

2. Tabasco

When it comes to slots, some like it hot. We’re not too sure what draws Horseshoe fans to this specific machine. Are they big lovers of the sauce? Is it the music? Does it satisfy all the spicy cravings without having to feel the burn?

3. Wizard of Oz

It might not be as sexy as Sex and the City, but the Oz crew –especially that Lion– is still pretty fierce. And c’mon, Dorothy with those ruby red slippers?  Don’t know about you, but I’ll take those over a pair of Manolos any day. They’re more comfortable.

4. Jackpot Party

Probably the best name for a slot machine. It’s got the two favorite things that Horseshoe Southern Indiana fans want when they visit: a jackpot and a party. Simple, fun, the allure of a winning a ton of money — ingredients for a popular slot machine!

5. Fireball Frenzy

We thought we covered the heat factor with the Tabasco slot machine. Fireball Frenzy definitely takes it up a notch. When I hear this name I think of fireballs flying around like crazy. Really risky people must like playing this one.

6. Sun and Moon

This sounds like a children’s book my mom used to read me. But it’s a pretty popular progressive with lots of Aztec inspired graphics. Aztecs were expert mathematicians in their day, makes sense there is a slot machine based on it.

7. Red Blazing 7s

It was this one or Sizzling 7s. It’s kind of redundant to post both, don’t you think? And it would throw the title of this blog off. Horseshoe’s 8 Popular Slots? Not as lucky sounding or very gaming-esque.

Find these slots and your personal favorites online with our Slot Finder.

Football Fever at the Horseshoe

While you’re out tailgating, having fun and cheering on your favorite teams, we’ve got football fever over here at the Horseshoe. From now until November, we’re going to give away up to $5,000 each week just for picking the winner of each Sunday and Monday football game. And yes, giving away lots of money is a symptom of football fever, according to our doctors.

The promo is called Pick ‘Em, Watch and Win and here’s how it works:

  1. Select the winner of each Sunday and Monday football game.
  2. Players can pick on Friday – Sunday (until kick-off for first Sunday game).
  3. Pick each game at the kiosk in the promotions area.
  4. Receive a point for each “winner” you selected. Icebreaker will be the total final score of the Monday night game.

Winners will be posted at the Total Rewards Center Tuesday morning and each week the prizes range from $100 to $5,000.

Check out our website for specific dates for this special.

Yup, it's that simple.

And if you’re staying to watch the game with us, we know you really can’t watch football without a cold brewski. Well, you can, but think about how much more enjoyable the game is with a beer in your hand.

We also think it’ll help bring our football fever temperature down.

The Envy Stage Bar has 16 ounce Coors Light and Miller Lite for $2.75 and hot dogs for $1.  On Saturday and Sunday nights, Legends also has beer specials.

Cheers to that!

Kathy Griffin Cracks Us Up

Paula Deen, eat your heart out. There’s another lovely lady coming to visit the Horseshoe this month.  Too bad she doesn’t cook as well as you do.

Funny lady Kathy Griffin is bringing all the snarky humor from her hit show, “My Life on the D-List” to the Horseshoe next Saturday, Sept. 11. And the crowd’s so nice, she had to do it twice: she’ll be performing her hilarious stand-up at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

Her first show has sold out, but tickets for the second seating are still on sale.

We love hearing Kathy’s jokes about celebrities, her fabulous (and botched) plastic surgeries and her mother’s love for box wine. (So classy!) We’re already ROFL-ing in our cubicles as we watch an episode where her and the lovely Ms. Deen came together.

Here’s a clip from the Associated Press where she talks about her Emmy, her show and promoting her mother’s Snuggie-like new product, the Snaggie or a Magg-le it.  Don’t know what that is? Well, there’s only one way to find out.

We at the Horseshoe love her shameless humor and red hair. How could you not love Kathy Griffin?

Tailgating at the UK vs. U of L Football Game

How can you be so angry when there are free Gooey Buttercakes from Paula Deen?

The fight for the Governor’s Cup will go down Sept. 4. And we at the Horseshoe couldn’t possibly let you watch it on empty stomach.

Look for the Horseshoe Southern Indiana Team outside the Papa John’s Stadium that Saturday from 1- 3:30 p.m. We’ll be hosting a tailgate party and everyone and their mama is invited. We hope ya’ll will play nice (until the game starts) while pregaming.

At the tailgate, we’ll have free samples from Paula Deen’s Buffet. Can you say Ooey Gooey Buttercakes?

You heard right, while everyone is grilling and schmoozing we’ll be serving up some of Paula’s Gooey Buttercakes, which will also be available at her new buffet right here at the Horseshoe Southern Indiana.

And for the record, we aren’t partial to either team,  just want to support our schools and show some spirit. We are Team Paula though.

WSOP Circuit comes to the Horseshoe

Guests of the Horseshoe are about to partake in some excitement come October. No, not Halloween shenanigans, the World Series of Poker.

The WSOP has a rich history (literally).  We like to think Horseshoe founder, Benny Binion, just wanted to start some drama between the poker greats in his casino to take his mind off all the death threats the mob was giving him in Las Vegas. But we’ll settle for the family friendly version:

It was 1970 when Benny invited six of the best known poker players to compete in an invitational at The Horseshoe Casino. The inaugural WSOP tournament was played as a series of cash games that included five-card stud, deuce to seven low-ball draw, razz, seven-card stud, and Texas hold ‘em. Before there was ESPN and bracelets, the players voted Johnny Moss the winner and he took home a silver cup.

Today, thousands of players compete for a multi-million dollar jackpot and a chance to claim the title of World Champion Poker.

On Friday, Oct. 1, Horseshoe Southern Indiana will host a $20,000 Free Roll followed by daily cash events leading up to the first tournament satellite event on October 23. Along with hundreds of thousands of dollars the winner of this Circuit event on Nov. 2 will win a seat in The Main Event in Las Vegas and a chance at the most coveted non-monetary prize in poker, a World Series of Poker bracelet.

Nothing says WSOP Champion like a wad of cash and some bling.

We hope you’ll be part of the excitement and the history that makes staying and playing at the Horseshoe so great.

Stay tuned to the Horseshoe blog for more details and a daily play by play of the action! Get more information on the WSOP and the Horseshoe here.

Paula’s ribbon cutting

Ms. Paula Deen visited the Horseshoe a few weeks ago, and she’ll be back for seconds soon. She cuts the ribbon to her new buffet here at the Horseshoe on Friday, Sept. 3 at 10 a.m., you bet we’ll be first in line at the buffet. After snapping a few pictures with Paula, of course.

Our Facebook and Twitter fans are really looking forward to sampling piling on the Paula goodness on their plates that day. According to an unofficial Facebook poll, our fans are most looking forward to desserts like gooey butter cakes and one of her most famous dishes, her fried chicken.

Also in an unofficial poll, we asked the citizens of Louisville, Kentucky if they preferred their home grown Kentucky Fried Chicken to that of Paula’s and the tribe has spoken: Paula’s wins by a landslide!

Read more about how to purchase tickets to the buffet and when to catch the ribbon cutting here.

Perhaps the sweetest surrender of all: Gooey. Butter. Cakes.

If you’re going to put anything from the South in your mouth, let it be these cakes. This sweet surrender is simple: Cake mix, eggs, butter, cream cheese and a whole lotta yum. You can expect to see treats like this at Paula Deen’s Buffet opening at the Horseshoe this September.

Watch this video to see Paula in action, making the chocolate version of this sweet treat.

You can add this to your buffet “to eat” list.

Sugar, spice and everything…Sassy

The name Sassy Strawberry Pie is just awesome. It makes us think of the girl in high school who was voted biggest flirt. Sweet with a hint of spicy (the recipe calls for a dash of chili powder – different but delicious!) And if you never got to talk to her in school, you can spend some time with her, well the dessert version of her anyway.

And if you were (or always wanted to be) a Sassy Strawberry Pie, why not get a taste of it at the Paula Deen buffet opening at the Horseshoe in September?

Think you’d surrender to a Sassy Strawberry Pie? Check out the recipe below on how to make it:

Sweet Surrenders à la Paula Deen

You could be the biggest health nut in the world or a junk food junkie on the brink of checking into the Betty Crocker clinic, but we know you have one, everyone does.

It’s a sweet surrender. Something sweet enough that you can’t help but wave your white flag and say goodbye to your diet (if only just for a bite or two).

Paula Deen’s buffet is opening up this September at the Horseshoe, and our guts are telling us that we’ll soon surrender to the South. Well, Paula’s sweet southern treats at least.

We’ve all seen Paula’s show on Foodnetwork, but have never gotten to actually sample some of her confectionary concoctions, let alone a whole buffet of them.

Hello gooey buttercakes, chocolate crème brulee, peach ice cream and magical peanut butter cookies.

That’s just a sample of the sweets you could surrender to.
